Thanking Our Founders
During a recent band rehearsal, we officially celebrated our 10th anniversary and McKinney Community Band Day in McKinney by thanking our founders, Bill Sleeper and Ed Schwarz, with the presentation of commemorative plaques.
While the band rehearsed in one room, Bill and Ed also were treated by the band to a special master class with renowned drummer Stockton Helbing. This is what Bill had to say about their class: “Stockton, at the top of the drumming list, is now playing with Doc Severinsen, and he teaches, writes, produces..all the while being a classy gentleman. Ed and I had the times of our lives, and we’re so grateful to the McKinney Community Band for the extremely special recognition!” Thank YOU, Bill and Ed, for starting an organization that has brought so much joy and friendship to so many folks.
MCB on YouTube
The McKinney Community Band just launched their official YouTube channel where videos of all 10 pieces from their July 10th performance can be found. We invite you to visit the channel and subscribe to it so that you’ll get automatic updates when we add videos to this channel. We’re pretty darned proud of the videos and hope you like them as much as we do.
Dallas Morning News Article – Summer 2006
Mayor Presents Proclamation to MCB Founders: McKinney Mayor Brian Loughmiller officially declared August 12 as McKinney Community Band Day in our community during our “American Spirit” concert in July. August 12, 2006 was the date of the band’s first ever performance at the annual Ice Cream Crank-Off. After reading the proclamation to the audience at the concert, the mayor took the podium to conduct the band in Sousa’s “The Thunderer.” Thank you, Mr. Mayor, for taking part in our big celebration.
